WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FOLLOW YOUR EMOTIONS

There are only two power sources you can plug into. You can let your emotions sit at the control center and dictate to your body what it needs to do to mask your pain. But if you follow your emotions, you are forging your own chains. Ultimately you will become a hopeless slave to your emotional dictates and the destructive solutions they drive you to repeatedly pursue.

There is a higher way to live. You can continue to let your emotions run your control center, or you can die to yourself and surrender to the Spirit of God who lives in you. You have the ability to follow His dictates and live in His power. Doing this is called abiding.

Abiding is turning off (dying to) your own power source and connecting into Him. The definition of abide is “to stay, continue, dwell, remain, tarry.” Think about how something works when it is plugged in and how it doesn’t when it is not. It’s easy to tell when you are abiding and when you are disconnected. Try to vacuum a room when the cord isn’t plugged in. Nothing happens. Until you plug into the correct power source it won’t work.

You flip your power source from your emotions to His Holy Spirit by making this declaration:

“This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection”(Psalm 91:2-4, NLT).

The Lord should be the first and only place you turn. If you follow your emotions they will turn to everything, but God. And when they do, they will fail you and enslave you. Victory can be yours. You must make the choice.
