TAKING BACK YOUR TERRITORY

According to John Eldridge in the book, Waking The Dead, there are two primary ways that Satan gains a foothold in the life of a believer. If you are guilty of either of these sinful behaviors or attitudes you need to renounce them and reclaim the territory you have given over to Satan.

Victory is yours, but in order to appropriate it, you have to renounce, repent of, and reclaim the following areas of sin in your heart.

The first area is in the area of pride. And if you think you don’t have pride, it manifests itself in self-sufficiency and self-protection. It is a spirit of independence from God.

How many things in my life are motivated out of self-sufficiency or self-protection? I don’t like to be vulnerable and I like to be in control. Either of those qualities gives a giant foothold for Satan to use to gain control of my heart and your heart.

The second area Satan uses is idolatry. Idolatry is not just an Old Testament issue. Idolatry is when there is anything in your life you love more, need more, or fear more than God. Anytime there is any activity, priority, or person you put before God you are permitting Satan to set up a beachhead from which to control your heart.

If you don’t renounce and reclaim the territory you have given to Satan through pride and idolatry you will never live in the victory that has already been won for you. Satan cannot keep you in bondage without your consent and permission.

Victory is yours. The war has been won. You don’t have to live in bondage and defeat.
